“The Galaxy A90 is the top-of-the-line model in Samsung’s Galaxy A series and goes all out in terms of the spec sheet”

Gone are the days when Samsung used to reserve new technologies for its flagship S or Note series. From multiple cameras to 48MP sensors, the brand has been offering the latest trends with its devices in the A series for a while now. The latest device to carry forward that legacy is the Galaxy A90 5G. The top model in the A lineup brings support for 5G cellular networks, something which has been available in select few flagships as of now. I got my hands on the Samsung Galaxy A90 5G, and here’s a sneak peek at the handset.

With a 6.7-inch display, the Galaxy A90 5G isn’t diminutive by any means. But considering the fact it offers support for high-speed 5G connections, it makes sense for the phone to offer a large display for the user to enjoy streaming videos and playing online games. The fact that the waterdrop notch-toting Super AMOLED panel offers sharp text and punchy colours also works in its favour. With an aspect ratio of 20:9, the device is certainly taller than usual.

That doesn’t mean however that it’s difficult to use single-handedly, unless you have small hands. I was easily able to operate the device with one hand thanks to excellent ergonomics. The device has also distributed its weight of 206g quite well.

As far as aesthetics are concerned, you’ll find that the Samsung’s Galaxy A90 5G isn’t much different from its brethren – featuring a glass-sandwich build with vertically-aligned triple rear cameras and an under-display fingerprint scanner. Sadly, the A90 5G also ditches the 3.5mm headphone socket, just like the recently-launched Galaxy Note 10 siblings (first impressions).

Leading the charge of performance is Qualcomm’s 7nm Snapdragon 855 chipset, which works in tandem with 6GB or 8GB RAM. Irrespective of the RAM variant, the handset comes with 128gigs of built-in, user-expandable memory. The hardware combination is quite strong, and we have no doubts that the Galaxy A90 5G will be able to breeze through anything thrown at it.

Considering that 5G would be drawing quite a lot of battery, Samsung has supplied the A90 5G with a capacious 4,500mAh unit. The device also supports 25W fast charging. The phone ships with Android 9.0 Pie which is layered with the company’s new OneUI.

In the imaging department, the Samsung Galaxy A90 5G gets triple rear cameras with a 48MP IMX586 primary shooter, a 12MP ultra-wide angle snapper and a 5MP depth unit. The phone comes with PDAF tech and is capable of recording videos at up to 4K resolution. For selfies, the handset features a 32MP camera up front.

As much as the A90 5G seems interesting as it could pave the way for more smartphones to bring 5G support to affordable prices, it’s highly doubtful that the Samsung Galaxy A90 5G launch in India will happen anytime soon. That’s because 5G is yet to start in the subcontinent commercially.
